I can finally see why this wasn't nominated for Best Picture. The acting is phenomenal but the story was rather boring. I'd rather go see the play. 2.5/5

77. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I've had a week to soak this one in. It's tough seeing as though Wolverine is one of my favorite comic characters of all time. Was it good? Yes and no. It's better than Brett Ratner's magnum opus "X3: X-men United". That has to be something right? They try too hard to cram too many mutants down your throat. Will I.AM should never be allowed to act ever again PERIOD. Gambit was good but not in it enough. Wolverine was too soft at the beginning. The list goes on and on but hey...it's a comic book movie and as long as they keep making them I'll keep watching them. Fun summer popcorn flick. 3/5

Thanks to the wonderful people at the Fairfax Beverly Theaters, I was able to finally see one of my all time favorite movies on the big screen. I could go on and on about how magically amazing this film is but that would just make me sound like a bigger nerd and I have 5 more posts to get to. If you've never seen this, shame on you. If you live in the L.A. area and have never seen it on the big screen keep an eye out. It gets at least one screening a year and is definitely worth the experience. 789179837297/5

Originally I passed on this movie because it features that talentless hack known to mortals as Dane Cook. There aren't too many rules I try to live my life by but the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF THEM ALL IS TO AVOID DANE COOK AT ANY COST! I hate to break it to you people, but he's not funny. Not even some sort of mutated, half assed version of funny. The guy is a joke stealer and only appeals to college aged sorority girls and maybe some douchebag meatheads. On that note this movie wasn't all that terrible when Dane wasn't on the screen. Still...he's on film for more than 5 minutes and that is simply too much for any normal person to endure. Watch at your own risk. 2/5

Ok so I'm over exaggerating but there is some truly fucked up shit in this DARK-AS-HELL comedy. To those of you who don't want to see it because it looks like a rip off of "Paul Blart Mall Cop"....you are FUCKING RETARDED. This is certainly not Kevin James running around falling all over the place at a mall. This is about an off-his-meds, delusional, psycho who tries to take the law into his own hands.

Well, fear not because not only is WFRR? good in 2009, it's actually better. I never realized how dark this was for a "kids" movie and it's great. Definitely will be picking this up on Blu-Ray.5/5

Hands down my favorite movie I've seen this year. That's not technically saying MUCH but this movie just kicks ass. A great coming of age story about life right after college. The acting is phenomenal, especially Jesse Eisenberg. We will be seeing a lot more of him in the future. Also something to note, the soundtrack. Hands down one of the best movie soundtracks of the last 20 years. Oh yeah, and Kristen Stewart....damn is she fine. 5/5

Needless to say the movie is watchable for a few chuckles. The supporting cast really carries the movie ( Danny McBride as usual...Bill Hader...Will Arnett). If you're bored on a rainy day and this one is on tv give it a watch. When it's done go about your regular every day lives because you'll probably never reference this movie again. 2/5

As good as Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad, Freaks and Geeks, and Undeclared. Segel and Rudd are fucking GREAT together on screen and this movie is a lot smarter than you'd think. Definitely needs a repeat viewing because I felt that I missed some jokes. people were laughing so hard that you missed half the movie. Proof in point, my wife snorted not once...but TWICE during the movie. TOTES MAGOTES! 4/5

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated. Between working, moving, and life I haven't had as much time to watch movies as I'd like. Hopefully things will slow down and I can get back to at least 3 movies a week. Anyway, I've had some time to digest this one. From what I gather there are two groups of people when it comes to this film. Those who read the book and really enjoyed the movie and those who didn't read the book and had no fucking clue what was going on. I had always heard of this graphic novel but didn't read it until about 2 years ago. Being a HUGE fan of the book I was really blown away with this one. Sure, it takes some liberties story-wise, but it's understandable. The book is just so heady that it would never appeal to MAINSTREAM AMERICA (or Joe The Movie Goer as I like to call them). For the most part Snyder stays VERY faithful to the novel and thank God for that. I can't really see anyone else making this the way he did. Only thing that could of made it better was a different Silk Spectre, Sally Jupiter, and a few other nit picky things that i wont spoil now. It's a shame that people still can't sit through a movie that is over 2 hrs long and that saddens me. Wish this could of been more of a hit so we can get comic movies of this caliber in the future. On the plus side, hopefully it'll be on Blu-Ray sooner than anticipated. i can;t wait for the 4 hr Directors cut with the Black Freighter and Under the Hood. I plan on seeing this again in the very near future so i will have more on it then. 4.5/5

One would think, judging by the way this film was marketed, that this would be a slap stick comedy starring an Englishman who a lot of people STILL don't know about.....bumbling and stumbling his way through life where he can see dead people...that annoy him (according to the poster). For the most part that is true, but they keep the slapstick and bumbling and stumbling to quite the minimum. And you know what? It WORKS. This movie had a whole lot of heart and further proves that Ricky Gervais is a solid actor. This film was much more dramatic than anything I've ever seen him in and he was just superb. Unfortunately this one didn't make a ton of money in theaters which for some strange fucking reason translates to Ricky Gervais can't draw a crowd therefore no one will hire him. I really hope that isn't true since this movie is receiving a lot of buzz now that it is on DVD and Blu-Ray (which actually was stunning) and would LOVE to see him in more movies (not movies about being locked in a museum). His brand of comedy is just so smart and the world needs a lot more of that these days. 4/5

Not to be confused with the Sonny Chiba Street Fighter franchise (which is AWESOME btw) or the new Street Fighter:The Legend of Chun Li,this Street Fighter stars my homeboy Jean Claude Van Damme and the late/great Raul Julia. Some might already write this film off and shit all over it but if you like cheesy action movies this one is pretty good. Being a huge fan of Street Fighter II (and if you grew up in the 90's who wasn't) this movie was a pleasant surprise. They squeeze in all of the characters from the game plus a few others from SFII Champions Edition and SF Alpha. The dialogue is horrible and the acting is probably worse but it's a fun hour and forty minutes that'll make you laugh for days on end. Please take note of the "Blanka" character.....I'm still laughing. 3/5

I think the reason this movie did so poorly in theaters was because it was marketed as some sort of slap sticky, over the top comedy. The truth is it's nothing of the sort. This movie has so much heart and it gets better and better every time I watch it. Of course the "Sweded" scenes are hilarious but there is so much more to this movie. It's about a community coming together to save their local video store that is going to be knocked down and turned into condominiums. This movie reminds me of the simpler days before BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO, when going to the video store was a 2 hr event because your dad didn't know which movie he wanted to rent. It's sad how those days are gone and in our fast paced, ADD fueled lives there will be nothing like it ever again. Now it's all about having whatever you want at the tip of your fingers. You can download a movie in 3 mintues, watch it, and then just throw it away. Gone are the days of watching a movie 4 times on VHS with your family. What has happened to our society? 4/5

Just thought I'd write a post in memory of James Whitmore. He was probably my favorite character in Shawshank Redemption and actually the first time I ever cried during a movie is when he hangs himself. Also, check out Tora!Tora!Tora! He was 87.

It's like he's taking an acting hiatus in the 2000's).....cool action but way too much CGI, the acting is decent and the story is fucking atrocious. 2/5

This college staple is still as funny now as it was when I was chugging Robitussin and playing Dreamcast 24/7 (well...the Robitussin only happened once). Lot's of great skating clips and some of the funnier CKY/Jackass pranks (i.e. Man running at full speed while taking a shit, SLOUZBERRY STOUFER FOR KEY KEY WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, The drive through, and of course throwing the dummy at cars). 4/5

I'm not going to bother writing anything about this film. It's fucking incredible.PERIOD! if you haven't seen this yet I'd suggest going out and getting it RIGHT NOW! GO! This is my favorite moment of the movie when Howard beale goes on one of his MANY diatribes.

33. The Pink Panther

33. The Pink Panther (1963) - 01/28/09 - Blu - Ray:
Believe it or not, this is a film that I had never seen before until last night. I've seen bits and pieces of the sequels, but never the original. Don't EVEN get me started on the re-makes starring Steve Martin!

First thing that jumps out at me, Henry Mancini at his finest and arguably one of the most recognizable opening theme songs in the history of film. Just pure magic. Also, the opening credit sequence paved the way for one of the greatest MGM Cartoons of all time "The Pink Panther" (duh!).

This movie stars Peter Sellers as the bumbling inspector Clouseau and he is just GREAT in it! My only gripe would be the lack of screen time for Mr. Sellers during the middle portion of the film. The comedy definitely has an acquired taste, but if you're a fan of Sellers this is him at his finest. Subtle, subtle, subtle. It's refreshing to look at a time in Film history where the comedies didn't revolve around dick and fart jokes. Seller's brand of comedy is top notch and paved the way for the tons of knock-offs and has-beens of today's generation. the supporting cast is great, especially David Niven as Sir Charles Lytton, Robert Wagner as his nephew George Lytton, and Capucine and too hot for her time Claudia Cardinale as the princess. Great caper movie with a ton of chuckle out loud moments. 4/5

31. Into The Wild (2007) - 01/27/09 - DVD:
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The more I watch it the more genius it becomes. If anything is going to make you want to go off the grid it's this movie (except for maybe the whole SPOILER eating the wrong plant and dying thing). I really want to visit Alaska right now. I'd elaborate more but #32 is fresh on my mind and killing me. 5/5

What the FUCK did I just watch?!?! Seriously?!?! I saw this on Harry Knowles' DVD list a few months back and added it on to my Netflix queue. I like to pride myself on being able to watch any and every movie (save a few musicals...god I hate those...) and figured I'd give this one a shot. There is a ton of controversy surrounding said film and now I understand why! Even to rent it on Netflix they warn you about the graphic nature. This film makes Irreversible look like Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties. I can't even type the wicked and disgusting acts I just witnessed. Movies are supposed to invoke feelings....not the urge to throw up my lasagna dinner. As "art" the movie is shot well....maybe even directed well? I can't tell...I just saw people eating shit with spoons. 1/5

I'm not one for Professional Wrestlers turning into actors, but sometimes there is an exception. For example The Rock (Be Cool ), Randy "Macho Man" Savage (Spiderman), and Hulk Hogan ( 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain). Well, you can now add "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to that list! Back when I was into wrestling, he was nothing but an annoying, loud mouthed, beer chugging red-neck. Now thanks to The Condemned, he is an annoying, loud mouthed, beer chugging red-neck with HEART. Fun movie with some solid action in it. 3/5

Heralded as a "Raw, Brilliant crime thriller" by some. What I saw was an outdated 80's cheese fest not worth watching. If you want to see a good William Peterson crime thriller, watch Manhunter. 1/5

24. Horton Hears a Who (2008) - 01/18/09 - Blu -ray:
It's fun and Computer animated. Probably the best Seuss adaptation to date. 3/5

25. Payback: Director's Cut (1999) - 01/20/09 - Blu-Ray:
Not as funny as the original cut that I saw in theaters way back when. Still a good movie to watch. The darker, more violent director's cut is definitely worth the watch. Bill Duke is in the movie which doesn't hurt. When I make my first feature film it will star Bill Duke and Danny Trejo and be extremely BAD ASSSSSSS. 3/5

27. Tropic Thunder (2008) - 01/22/09 - Blu-Ray:
One of my favorite movies from last year. Gets funnier with each viewing and no one beats RDJ as a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. 5/5

28. Star Trek III: the Search for Spock (1984) - 01/25/09 - DVD:
Let me preface this by stating I am not a Trekkie. I've avoided this franchise for 24 years and didn't decide until last year that I'd try watching them. Apparently the even numbered ones are great and the odd ones are awful. So far that theory holds up. I've only watched the first three but I hope they get better than STIII. 2/5

29. First Knight (1995) - 01/25/09 - Encore:
Enjoyable as a kid but goddamn is Richard gere an awful fucking actor. Couldn't you fake an English accent? Was it that HARD to do? If you want to see Richard Gere playing himself trying to ACT like Lancelot, this is the movie for you. 1/5

30. Wall- E (2008) 01/26/09 - Blu- Ray:
Just a fantastic movie. It hits all the right emotions and the fact that it's basically a silent film doesn't hurt. Movie is a work of genius and I can only hope future generations can enjoy "animated" films of this calibur. 5/5

If I were to tell you that Al Pacino and Robert Deniro were going to partner up for a crime thriller would you not want to be the first person in line at your local cineplex to catch this momentous occasion? There is no way this movie can be bad...right?....RIGHT?!?!? Oh it's bad. It's worse than bad. This movie takes a hot, steaming wet shit on the legacy of the two aforementioned acting icons. They both just phone in the performance and my dog can write a better story. One of the worst movies I've seen in a looong long time. 0/5

14. Gran Torino (2008) - 01/08/09 - DVD:
Clint Eastwood is back to his old, bad-ass, racist self which makes this one worth watching. Now all you have to do is get through the AWFUL supporting cast (I'm looking at you Father Janovich!). People who know me might say that I hate him because he's Irish...and to them I say YOU ARE CORRECT! I FUCKING HATE IRISH PEOPLE! I DON'T CARE THAT YOU LOVE TO DRINK OR YOUR FAVORITE FOOD IS FUCKING SHEPHERD'S PIE! SHAMROCK TATOOS AREN'T EVEN FUCKING COOL!!!! IT'S LIKE SAYING YOU HAVE BARBED WIRE OR A GODDAMN BUTTERFLY! I guess now is the time to come out of the closet with my religious beliefs. Basically, I don't have any. To each his own. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T TRY TO FORCE THAT SHIT DOWN MY THROAT! So on that note....I did not like this movie. 2/5

16. On Deadly Ground (1994) - 01/09/09 - Showtime:
Second Seagal film on my list and it's a damn good one too. Great appearances by Michael Caine (the scene with the reindeer is hilarious), John C. McGinnley, and a husky Billy Bob Thornton. Solid action movie with the most ridiculous final speech ever, given by Seagal himself. If you haven't become hip to the GREEN movement, this movie should teach you all you need to know. 3/5

17. Southland Tales (2007) - 01/09/09 - Blu-Ray:
Visually stunning and great acting by some not-so-great actors. It's a who's who of washed up 90's actors. Seriously, it's like Richard Kelly only watched comedies from the late 90's to cast this flick. The only flaw is that I still have no fucking clue what the hell went down during that movie....none.....2.5/5

Wow.....just wow.....if you see any documentary this year it HAS to be this. One of the weirdest stories I've ever heard. 4/5

20. The Edge (1997) - 01/12/09 - Fox movie Channel:
We here at The Great Movie Blog have a special place in our heart for this movie. It stars non-other than that gruff, furry faced thespian who's been in classic after classic and never fails to deliver. No....not Anthony Hopkins. The real star of this movie is BART THE BEAR. Man can that bear ACT! The story isn't bad either and it's one of the few Mammet movies I enjoy. I know, blasphemy, but he's a pretentious douche. 4/5

Managed to get a few chuckles. Sad when you have some of the funniest people on earth involved on this film. 2/5


3. Deathproof (2007) - 01/03/09 - Encore :
Simply awesome. If you didn't get to experience the full Grindhouse experience in theaters you are missing out on life. I have a lot to say on the attention span of your average movie goer but I'll save that rant for another time. This is my favorite half of Grindhouse. The Director's cut with missing real is definitely worth the watch. 4/5

Only reason I enjoy this movie is the fact that i worked at TGIFridays and The Ale House for 4 years. 3/5

This is now my 5th time seeing this instant classic. Say what you want about all the continuity errors and Christian Bale's bat-voice ( IT'S NECESSARY!) but I saw this in theaters 4 times.NO MORE DEAD COPS!!!! 5/5

Not the Mel Gibson Revolutionary War Epic. This Patriot stars non-other than STEVEN SEAGAL. Not his finest piece of work but after reading SEAGALOGY I am making it my goal to watch every single Seagal movie ever made. Expect more on this list at some point. 2/5
